Adolescence can be a difficult time in one’s life. It is full of physical changes, emotional shifts, increased responsibility, more complicated social relations, increased pressure, and more challenging academic requirements. This difficulty is not experienced just by the adolescent, but also by many of the individuals in the adolescent’s life, such as his/her parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors. Therefore, sometimes a helping hand is needed in order to successfully navigate this time.
I specialize in working with adolescents and their families across a wide spectrum of difficulties. I have experience providing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, ADHD, eating disorders, substance abuse, dual diagnoses, etcetera, as well as family therapy. I also incorporate mindfulness techniques, breathing exercises, and meditation into sessions.
I offer educational, learning, and attentional assessments in order to address difficulties with learning, memory, behavior, and/or attention, and provide recommendations and information tailored specifically for the student based upon the individual’s results.
Another aspect of my experience is assessing for concussions and head injuries. Concussions can be dangerous, especially for youth, and immediate action is required if one is suspected. I can evaluate for a concussion and aid in the recovery process. I also provide baseline testing, which is an evaluation of an individual to determine his/her normal functioning, so that should a concussion occur, there is data with which to compare.
